NFL to NYC: The Ultimate Weekend Getaway Guide to New York City

My boyfriend just finished up the 2017 NFL Combine (can I take one second to gush about how proud I am of him *swoon*) and we decided the perfect way to celebrate such a big accomplishment was to take a quick trip to one of my favorite places... New York City

Growing up, every year (around Dec. 9th) my family packed up and headed to the city to celebrate my mothers birthday. Its my fondest and most cherished childhood trip memories. The snow, the lavish 5th Ave christmas window displays, ice skating in Rockefeller plaza...what is better than NYC in the winter months? I live for the brisk cold walks, nuts4nuts carts, and the incessant wail of taxis and sirens.

Since My love has never been, NYC was the perfect destination for our next adventure. We had 1 weekend to cram in as many iconic touristy NYC destinations as possible and this what our trip boiled down to:

1. Top of the Rock

I absolutely love Top of the Rock. It has to be one of the most picturesque views of the entire NYC cityscape. The timed admission guarantees that crowds wont ruin your picture but make sure to buy your tickets early to get the best golden hour (sunrise -or- sunset). Although the Empire State building offers some gorgeous scenery, at top of the rock you are able to capture the empire state building itself in your photos as well as the Chrysler building. The sweeeping views and iconic landmarks makes it a must visit during any NYC visit.

When you're finished with your photoshoot head to the lower levels of the Rockefeller Center to grab ice-cream at Ben & Jerry's or a coffee at Starbucks **sit across from the Swarovski store for a perfect INDOOR view of ice skating while you relax.

2. 9/11Memorial and Museum

Everyone has a 9/11 story. It's a tragedy that has played some role in our lives, distant or daily. I find myself needing to pay homage to those who have sacrificed, suffered, or fought for the life I am able to live today. In coming to New York with my BF, we both felt as though taking time to visit not only the 9/11 memorial but also take a guided tour through the museum, was a great way to honor american history. It was humbling to say the least and really encourage anyone who is visiting the city to go and not only see the memorial and museum- but take the time to go on the guided tour. It's INCREDIBLY moving.

**If you're in the area there is an absolutely insannnnnnnnne and insta-worthy burger and milkshake bar near by called Black Tap- but beware the line often wraps around the block. Dress accordingly to wait.

3. Brunch at The Houseman
"Is it even brunch if you don't drink mimosas? That's not brunch, that's boring."   - Jefferson Ellison

My cousin Jefferson lives in the city running a clothing company named JAWBREAKING, and suggested we meet up for brunch at The Houseman for good food and conversation. It was absolutely delicious. The menu was simple but well curated & can satisfy any breakfast palette. Don't forget to grab mimosas with fresh sliced oranges to top off your delicious meal.

4. Lunch in Times Square with Rachel

Luckily, I got to NYC slightly ahead of my BF which gave me the perfect amount of time to do what girls do best...catch up with one of my closest friends (@_rachelinaa_) for food and gossip in the city. She just moved to the upper east side of manhattan and I couldn't wait to see her new spot and catch up on how NYC has changed her life.

We met up in Times Square and grabbed some sushi at Blue Fin. Although we were limited to their small portions menu due to the lunch dinner switch- the food was delicious and the perfect amount to hold you over for a later dinner. The tuna sashimi was to die for.

Following a quick bit we had an impromptu photoshoot with an artist named Riz (find some of his stuff here: Pictures - Music).  ****LIFE DISCLAIMER***Should you ever find yourself in the middle of Times Square with someone you love, don't forget to take as many pictures as possible to capture the fleeting moments that will pass you by. You'll never regret being able to look back on the pictures.

5. Museum of Natural History
When I travel, especially internationally, I try to make it a point to visit as many museums as possible. I have to say, The Museum of Natural History has been and always will be on of my all-time favorites. I learn something new every time I wander it's halls and never leave feeling anything less than inspired by the beauty of nature and the sentient beings we share it with. If you are and animal lover, such as I, then this museum is a MUST DO.

6. Phantom of the Opera
If you have never had the pleasure of seeing a broadway play then I highly encourage you to take the opportunity while you explore NYC. The theater experience is to DIE for and something that must be experienced in one's lifetime. If you want to see a classic then you have to see Phantom of the Opera **This is a long-running show that is now considered off-broadway...aka you can get tickets day of at the TKTS booth in Times Square for up to 50% day of the show!**
If you are in the Times Square x Broadway are then stop by Carmines Restaurant for decadent family style italian. The portion here are huge so a little goes a ling way- my personal favorite is their mussels in red sauce, the actual bomb.com/awesome...

7. Go City Card or The New York City Pass
My final trick for making the most out of your weekend, is to invest in either the New York Pass or the Go City Card. With the New York Pass you get early entry, free entry, special access, and more to over 90+ NYC destinations. This is a great way to explore alot of what NYC has to offer without completely blowing your travel budget. However, when restricted on time I would op for the go city card, which lets you customize and priorities attraction admittance so that you can hit all your favorites for a lower price!
